Making sure you have a comfortable dental experience has always been our number one goal. As a member of our dental family, you may already know that we offer relaxation dentistry. We are very excited to introduce you to the newest member of our dental family who will provide this additional service in sedation dentistry.

We Now Offer IV Sedation

IV sedation, also known as conscious sedation, is a moderate form of sedation that makes you less aware of what’s going on but does not put you to sleep like general anesthesia would. IV sedation is administered through a vein and offers several advantages to you, as a patient, including:

More comfortable for you and us — You’ll feel less pain and discomfort during IV sedation and will be relaxed and in a “twilight zone.” You usually won’t be aware of the procedure, but you will be conscious enough to respond to questions and make comments. We’ll be better able to focus on the procedure knowing you are comfortable and without pain.

Fast-acting — Since it is being administered into your vein, it goes to work quickly, meaning you spend less time in the chair waiting for sedation to take effect.

Can be monitored and adjusted — Unlike other sedation methods, the amount of sedation can be adjusted during the procedure as needed by reducing or increasing the amount of the drugs being used in the IV.

Deeper sedation — IV sedation is deeper than oral sedation, making it ideal for those with stronger dental phobias and those who have strong gag reflexes. It also means you’ll have a more comfortable in-chair experience during longer or more complicated procedures.

Not every dental practice can offer IV sedation. It takes special training on the part of the dentist to be able to administer it — and that is just one reason we are so pleased to be introducing our latest team member.

Meet Our New Team Member

We are proud to welcome Dr. Sayde Souther to our team. Dr. Souther grew up in nearby St. Simons Island, and she always wanted to be a dentist. She got her degree from the University of Georgia, then graduated at the top of her class from the Dental College of Georgia. She continued her education to be able to provide surgical and sedation dentistry, including IV sedation.

Adding Dr. Souther to the team allows us to expand the services we offer under one roof to better serve your needs. Now we can provide the sedation dentistry option that will work best for you. So there’s no need to fear keeping your mouth healthy and your smile beautiful. Please contact my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation.

All the best,
Dr. Britt
