At Exceptional Dentistry of the Golden Isles, we love hearing about your summer plans. We know many of our patients have planned exciting trips and vacations over the next few months. Traveling is always exciting and fun, but it’s important to be sure that you continue to care for your oral health while you are away. You would be surprised at how quickly your oral health can suffer if you are not diligent about your oral hygiene routine and mindful of your food and beverage choices. We want to share some oral health tips to keep in mind before your next trip:
Plan and Pack Accordingly
Depending on your travel destination, it may be difficult to get oral hygiene supplies if you forget something at home. Be sure to pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash. Use travel-size items if necessary. It is especially important to pack any hardware you may need if you are currently receiving Invisalign® or other orthodontic treatment or wear an oral appliance when sleeping. We would hate for your treatment to be negatively impacted because you forgot your hardware.
Use Bottled Water When Necessary
For certain travel destinations, it is recommended to drink only bottled water. In these places, it is also extremely important to use bottled water when brushing your teeth. If the tap water is not healthy to drink, you should not use it to brush your teeth either. You would be surprised at how quickly bacteria can enter your body, even just by brushing your teeth. Not to mention that bacteria can linger on your toothbrush as well.
Clean Your Teeth
This may seem like a silly tip, but when you are enjoying yourself, indulging in alcohol, and staying up late, you may forget to brush and clean your teeth at the end of the night. Vacation is a particularly important time to remember your oral hygiene routine because individuals typically indulge in foods and beverages that can be harmful to their oral health.
