Sedation Dentistry: Is it Possible to Relax at the Dentist?

Britt Blog 1200x630

Have you avoided visiting the dentist for routine dental care or needed treatments because of dental anxiety? If so, you are not alone. Many Americans suffer from some form of dental fear that prevents them from receiving care. Avoiding dental care for prolonged periods of time can lead to tooth decay, the need for additional treatments, and added costs. Sedation dentistry allows our patients to receive the care they need while remaining in a relaxed state.

Why Choose Sedation Dentistry?

If you feel anxious or fearful when you visit the dentist, sedation dentistry might be just what you need. There are a number of reasons why patients might experience anxiety, fearful thoughts, or phobia when visiting the dentist. Sedation dentistry can benefit patients with issues such as:

  • Past negative experiences
  • Cannot sit for long periods of time
  • Low tolerance for oral discomfort
  • Aversion to the sights, sounds, and smells of the office

Sedation Options We Offer

Depending on the degree of your fear, we offer three different sedation options to help you feel relaxed while under our care:

NuCalm
This option is a revolutionary all-natural technology that is completed in four steps, providing patients deep relaxation. Once the appointment is over, the effects wear off immediately, allowing the patient to return to normal activity with no recovery time.

Oral Sedation
A sedative is taken approximately one hour before the scheduled appointment. You will remain conscious and be able to answer questions and follow directions during the procedure. This method is more intense and longer lasting; therefore, you will need someone to accompany you to and from your appointment.

IV Sedation
This option is the most intense and is only administered by our trained and certified staff. Due to the nature of this sedation method, patients are unaware of what is taking place during treatment. Similar to oral sedation, patients need to be accompanied to and from their appointment and monitored until the effects of the medication have worn off.

If you are located in the Brunswick, GA area and have been avoiding a trip to the dentist, you owe it to yourself to contact our office to learn more about the sedation options we offer and which method may best suit your needs. You may not always look forward to a visit with us, but you don’t need to fear it. We look forward to seeing you soon!
