Common Questions And Answers About Dental Implants

Britt Blog January 24

With the start of the new year, there is no better time to make your oral health a priority. If you need a tooth replacement, one popular option is dental implants. Although dental implants have become extremely common over the years, there are many patients who are unfamiliar with and have questions about this treatment. We want to answer some of the most common questions.

What are dental implants?
A dental implant can replace one tooth or multiple teeth and is used when the entire tooth root and tooth structure need to be replaced. The treatment is a multi-step process that involves placing a post that acts as an artificial tooth root into the jawbone below the gumline. Once healed, a replacement tooth is fixed to the post, completing the treatment.

Are dental implants completed in one office visit?
Dental implants are not completed in one visit. The process, from start to finish, is actually completed over a number of months. This time also includes healing time after the initial part of treatment. We do not recommend this treatment for patients who are looking for a quick fix to their oral health problems.

Do dental implants only replace one tooth?
Dental implants can replace one tooth, but they can also be used to replace multiple teeth, depending on your oral health needs.

Is it difficult to care for implants?
Not only do implants resemble your natural teeth aesthetically, but the care is the same as well. Dental implants can be brushed, and you can use dental floss between the teeth as well. We still recommend that patients with implants visit our office regularly for dental care.

Are there any food restrictions?
Patients love dental implants because they are able to enjoy their favorite foods that they may not have been able to enjoy for some time due to difficulty chewing.
